Craft Breweries Across the U.S. Unveil Their Beer Recipes in New Guide Launched by the American Homebrewers Association

Courtesy of the American Homebrewers Association
Boulder, Colo. ● July 19, 2017 – Love beer? And your nearby brewery? Celebrating local, independent breweries, the American Homebrewers Association (AHA)—the leading community for homebrewers—today unveiled its inaugural 50-State Commercial Beer Clone Recipes Guide. The AHA compiled the list, which features recipes scaled down to 5 to 10 gallon batches, after reaching out to breweries nationwide.

“Just about every one of the 1.2 million people in the country who brew their own beer, has considered making a career of brewing,” said Gary Glass, Director, American Homebrewers Association. “Many professional craft brewers got started as homebrewers in their kitchens and backyards—and by sharing these recipes, we are thrilled to spread the love of beer and the art of making it.”

From Pliny the Elder—which was voted the #1 beer in America by the AHA’s members from 2009 to 2016—made by Russian River, based in Santa Rosa, Calif., to Two Hearted Ale—which dethroned Pliny the Elder in 2017—made by Bell’s, based in Comstock, Mich., many beloved beers, both established and up-and-coming, are listed in the commercial beer recipes guide.

“With both the craft beer industry and the hobby of homebrewing continuing to expand nationwide, these recipes offer beer lovers the opportunity to make their favorite local brews at home,” said Glass.

Access the Commercial Beer Clone Recipes Guide, which features all 50 recipes, here.

The X-Taps are where festivalgoers can indulge in big barrel-aged beers like Anderson Valley’s Wild Turkey Bourbon Barrel Aged Salted Caramel Porter or Deschutes Brewery’s Black Butte XXVII, both of which will be on tap at this year’s Brewfest. The 2017 X-Tap program also includes a number of hard-to-find sour and farmhouse ales, such as pFriem’s Kumquat Farmhouse Ale, Buoy’s Benedict Cumberbatch and Boneyard’s Gooze Cruze. Approximately 40 breweries and cider houses are participating in this year’s X-Tap program.

Samuel Adams Launches Brewing the American Dream Collaboration Pack - In Stores This July

Courtesy of Samuel Adams

BOSTON, JULY 17, 2017 – To celebrate the independent and entrepreneurial spirit of the craft beer industry, Samuel Adams has collaborated with five different breweries across the country to brew a limited release 12-pack for the first-time ever, aptly named The Brewing the American Dream Collaboration Pack. From bartenders to chefs, the collaborative spirit of “craft” is stronger than ever.  No industry better exudes this spirit than the craft brewing community, where independent brewers put aside competition to collaborate creatively and challenge each other to push the envelope.

Unlike any other beer collaborations before, this pack features brewers who are part of Samuel Adams Brewing the American Dream, the brewery’s signature philanthropic program. Nearly a decade ago, Sam Adams created Brewing the American Dream to provide loans and coaching to craft brewers and small business owners pursuing their passions and the American Dream of starting their own business. All profits from this collaboration pack will be donated to non-profit program partner and small business lender Accion to support loans to food and beverage entrepreneurs nationwide.

The pack’s five brewers - Roc Brewing Co. (Rochester, NY), Bosque Brewing (Albuquerque, NM), ChuckAlek Independent Brewers (Ramona, CA), Woods Beer Co. (San Francisco, CA) and Brewery Rickoli (Wheat Ridge, CO) – have participated in the program and received a loan to kick start or grow their craft breweries. And most have participated in the Brewing and Business Experienceship, receiving individual coaching from the team at Sam Adams.

“This pack represents the independent spirit, passion and collaboration that is core to our craft beer industry,” said Sam Adams founder and brewer Jim Koch. “We’re proud to have collaborated with these creative and passionate brewers in a way that allows us to continue to pay it forward and empower fellow independent craft brewers to be successful and to grow.”

The pack, which contains five unique collaboration beers and Sam Adams’ flagship Boston Lager, hits stores nationally in late July.

Collab Pack – 6 Distinct Brews:

ThreeNinety Bock in collaboration with Roc Brewing Co., Rochester, NY
ThreeNinety Bock is a slightly roasted Maibock with a sweet toffee and light caramel flavor, crafted from four hop varieties, combined with rye malt and oak smoked malt. Mosaic and Hallertau Mittelfrueh hops provide the balance that gives this dark golden bock a big, juicy character and slightly sweet and dry finish. ThreeNinety is a nod to the distance in miles between Boston and Rochester.

“Over the past 6 years with the help of Brewing the American Dream we took our business from a home brew hobby to a fast-paced brewery with 4 full-time employees and 8 part-time employees,” said founder Chris Spinelli.

Desert Kaleidoscope IPA in collaboration with Bosque Brewing, Albuquerque, NM
Desert Kaleidoscope, pays homage to the Albuquerque balloon fiesta and features a mixture of flavors including citrus, tangerine, pine and honey malt to create a brew with a bold, hoppy aroma. With a 7.0% ABV, Desert Kaleidoscope is a deep amber, medium-bodied brew that leaves a clean touch of lingering bitterness on the palate.

“Nearly five years ago, we set out to provide great jobs and be an integral part of the craft beer community we love.” said Founder Gabe Jensen. “We currently have 90 co-workers that we are thrilled to be both learning from and growing with as a company -this is what inspires us.”

Time Hop Porter in collaboration with ChuckAlek Independent Brewers, Ramona, CA
Driven by co-founders Grant Fraley and Marta Jankowska’s mission of creating “Old School Beers for New School Palates,” Time Hop Porter utilizes Zeus, Chinook, Cascade and Goldings hops and is 5.3% ABV. The hop character is balanced by three malt varieties: Sam Adams pale two-row blend, Crisp Brown, and Black malt. This porter has strong notes of citrus and pine that are balanced by a smooth, roasted malt character.

“We were at a cross roads with our brewery when we met with Jim Koch, and after our conversations we knew exactly where to take the business,” said Founder and Brewer Grant Fraley.  “When we opened our second location in 2016 we saw over 300% growth in revenue.”

Boston Tea Party Saison in collaboration with Woods Beer Co., San Francisco, CA
Boston Tea Party Saison is a bi-coastal twist on the classic Belgian style, combining Woods's yerba mate-infused saison with Sam Adams’ wild yeast blend, Kosmic Mother Funk. Mate's earthy spice plays on the rippling, fruity haze of KMF's funky bacteria, and gives a signature snap to the amber saison's traditional dry finish.

“Our loan from the program helped us build a brewpub and four tasting rooms, and pursue more innovative collaborations like this one,” said Woods founder and brewer Jim Woods. “That creative, supportive spirit is the best part of this industry.”

Oats McGoats Stout in collaboration with Brewery Rickoli, Wheat Ridge, CO
Oats McGoats is an American stout brewed based on founder and brewer Rick Abitbol’s commitment to brewing full-flavored, gluten-reduced beers (if they didn’t say it, you wouldn’t know). At 6.5% ABV, the full-bodied, moderately carbonated beer is accented by earthy, spicy flavors and a hint of roasted coffee notes.

“The best advice we’ve gotten has been from our friends at Sam Adams!”, said founder Rick Abitbol. “If we hadn’t gotten our loan, we wouldn’t have been able to open our doors.”

Samuel Adams Boston Lager is the original collaboration beer between Jim Koch and his father, using his great-great grandfather’s recipe - helping lead the American craft beer revolution and reviving a passion for full-flavored beer. Only the finest hand-selected ingredients are used to create this perfectly balanced and complex original brew, including two-row malted barley and Bavarian Noble hops. Boston Lager is full-flavored with a balance of malty sweetness contrasted by hop spiciness and a smooth finish.

AVAILABILITY: The Brewing the American Dream collaboration 12-pack will be available nationwide with limited availability for a SRP of $16.99-19.99 starting in late-July. For more information, visit www.brewingtheamericandream.com/collabpack.

About Samuel Adams Brewing the American Dream
Jim Koch first brewed Samuel Adams in his kitchen in 1984 and in his pursuit of a better beer, he ignited the craft beer movement, inspiring a whole new beer category that’s produced millions of jobs in communities from coast-to-coast. Jim launched the Brewing the American Dream philanthropic program in 2008 to give back to the community in which he started and help small business owners and fellow craft brewers pursue their passion and achieve their American Dream.

“Two thirds of new jobs in America come from small businesses, but entrepreneurs – especially those in the food and beverage industry - often lack the cash, training and networks essential for success,” said Gina Harman, CEO of Accion U.S Network. “With the support of Samuel Adams and Brewing the American Dream, we help entrepreneurs overcome previously insurmountable obstacles – like accessing start-up capital to open a brewery.”

Since the launch of the program, Sam Adams and Accion have worked together to counsel more than 8,000 small business owners and provide more than 1,300 loans totaling nearly $18 million to 1,000 small businesses that have gone on to create or retain over 5,300 jobs across America. The program has provided nearly $1 million in loans to 40 small craft brewers.

About Samuel Adams and The Boston Beer Company
The Boston Beer Company began in 1984 with a generations-old family recipe that Founder and Brewer Jim Koch uncovered in his father's attic. Inspired and unafraid to challenge conventional thinking about beer, Jim brought the recipe to life in his kitchen. Pleased with the results of his work, Jim decided to sample his beer with bars in Boston in the hopes that drinkers would appreciate the complex, full-flavored beer he brewed fresh in America. That beer was aptly named Samuel Adams Boston Lager, in recognition of one of our nation's great founding fathers, a man of independent mind and spirit. Little did Jim know at the time, Samuel Adams Boston Lager would soon become a catalyst of the American craft beer revolution.

Today, The Boston Beer Company brews more than 60 styles of beer. It relentlessly pursues the development of new styles and the perfection of classic beers by searching the world for the finest ingredients. Using the traditional four vessel brewing process, the Company often takes extra steps like dry-hopping, barrel-aging and a secondary fermentation known as krausening. The Company has also pioneered another revolution, the “extreme beer” movement, where it seeks to challenge drinker's perceptions of what beer can be. The Boston Beer Company has been committed to elevating the image of American craft beer by entering festivals and competitions around the globe, and is one of world's most awarded breweries at international beer competitions. As an independent company, brewing quality beer remains its primary focus. Although Samuel Adams beer is America's leading craft beer, it accounts for only one percent of the U.S. beer market. The Boston Beer Company will continue its independently-minded quest to brew great beer and to advocate for the growth of craft beer across America.

No-Li Brewhouse Announces New Allocation Plan In Responce To Recent Growth

Courtesy of No-Li Brewhouse
SPOKANE, USA — No-Li Brewhouse announced an allocation plan this week to serve its thirsty customers.

No-Li’s loyal fans are buying up the brewery’s beer as swiftly as the company is able to brew and package it, and the allocation plan is focused to fulfill a steady flow of fresh No-Li craft bottles, cans and draft, and also tries to take care of all accounts and customers in all communities that the brewery has the opportunity to serve.

The demand pushed the brewery to create an allocation plan that focuses its distribution to the state of Washington and parts of Idaho.

“We had to make a tough and gut-wrenching decision to adjust the allocation plan to better serve Spokane and communities closer to home,” says No-Li founder and owner John Bryant.

“We want to thank all the beer enthusiasts who enjoy and support No-Li so much that we’ve been sold out of beer. It made us pause and appreciate the communities across the Pacific Northwest that support No-Li, community and the craft beer movement.”

No-Li will pause shipments into the Oregon market by August 1. This doesn’t mean, however, that the brewery won’t return at some point.

“We want to make sure that we provide a consistent supply of hand-crafted batches and brews to every customer,” says Bryant. “In short, we are very thankful and continue to pursue the hometown vision and cause of a craft beer culture and economy. It’s hard to leave Oregon — we know there are a lot of No-Li fans down there, too — and we want to come back when we can. We spent a lot of time and energy learning and being a part of the Oregon communities."

No-Li’s period of growth has allowed it to provide more than 60 living-wage jobs in the Spokane area, while also engaging in charitable outreach in the community, often reaching out and lending a direct supportive hand to the under-served.

No-Li Brewhouse, founded in 2012, is an independent and family-owned brewery located at 1003 E. Trent Avenue in Spokane, Wash. Nolibrewhouse.com

Coronado Brewing Company and Monkey Paw Brewing Join Forces

Two of San Diego's Independent Craft Breweries Partner for Growth

San Diego, CA - July 18, 2017 - In today's tumultuous beer climate, two of San Diego's most respected and award-winning independent craft breweries are joining forces to deliver more beer to thirsty fans. Coronado Brewing Company will acquire a majority share in Monkey Paw Brewing Company. The move allows Monkey Paw to share in Coronado's resources, further developing the brand, while simultaneously maintaining the independence, integrity, and quality that Monkey Paw has become known for. The acquisition is expected to close September 1, 2017, for an undisclosed amount.

"We are excited to bring Monkey Paw Brewing Company into our family," says Brandon Richards, COO, Coronado Brewing Company. "We're looking forward to partnering with Scot Blair and his team; they have built a tremendous brand from the ground up, and their beers are incredibly well-respected. We can't wait to share their brand with an expanded audience."

The partnership will enable Monkey Paw to bring more of its beer to fans throughout Coronado's distribution footprint. The plan is to grow organically, with Coronado working with Monkey Paw to expand draft accounts, refresh its branding, and increase off-premise distribution. "Scot Blair has created a brand with a lot of momentum, and we don't want to mess with that too much," says Richards. "The pub will continue to operate as-is, and we're looking at releasing new cans in the near future."

Coronado's move to acquire Monkey Paw comes at a time when many regional breweries are experiencing declining sales. "We have been looking for the opportunity to bring in a brand that fits with our culture, and doing so allows us to realize our operational efficiencies," says Richards. "It also gives us the opportunity to sell more beer in California, which we love doing. We think this is a powerful extension of our brand and a great way to diversify our offerings."
For more information about both companies, visit www.coronadobrewing.com and www.monkeypawbrewing.com. Stay Coastal. Cheers.
