PORTLAND, Ore. – March. 2, 2017 – Cascade Brewing won a gold medal for its Framblanc 2015 at the Oregon Beer Awards, held Feb. 28 at Revolution Hall. The beer took tops honors in the “Wood and Barrel Aged Sour and Brett” category.
Framblanc features a blend of sour Blond and Triple ales aged in oak wine barrels for up to one year with white raspberries. Using fruit grown within 12 miles of Cascade's Blending House facility, this project showcases bold flavors of raspberries, grapefruit zest, white cranberries and peaches.
“To take home a gold medal in one of the most competitive categories, as judged by our peers and industry experts, means a great deal,” explained Tim Larrance, vice president of sales and marketing. “We have a huge appreciation for the brewing staff for making the beer, to the cellar staff for nurturing the beer and to the pub and sales staff that help get this beer into the consumer’s hands.”
Cascade has a very limited supply of Framblanc 2015 in bottles (less than 40 cases), which are only available at its two Portland pubs: the Cascade Brewing Barrel House and the Raccoon Lodge. The brewery is scheduled to release its Framblanc 2016 project in August, with nearly 1,000 cases for sale that will be distributed worldwide.
