Ghostfish Brewing to Release Peak Buster Double IPA

Courtesy of Ghostfish Brewing
Seattle, WA – Ghostfish Brewing announced today the release of their 5th packaged beer, Peak Buster Double IPA. This bold beer will be available in 22 oz. glass bottles year-round at the Ghostfish Brewing taproom and numerous retail locations within their distribution area.

Peak Buster Double IPA is 100% gluten-free, brewed with malted millet and buckwheat, and hopped with Eureka, Centennial and Summit hops. These hops create a powerful aroma of tropical fruits (mango, passionfruit, lychee), citrus and pine.

Peak Buster Double IPA comes in at 9.4 percent ABV and 120 IBUs. The beer is deceptively drinkable despite its high ABV and high IBUs, balanced, but with a hint of warmth on the finish.

“We spent 2015 honing our craft lineup of solid session beers. In 2016 we’re getting a lot more ambitious,” said Brewmaster Jason Yerger.

Iron Horse Brewery Announces Food at [ the pub ], Making [ the pub ] an Actual Pub

Courtesy of Iron Horse Brewery

Because the beer is looking for a friend

ELLENSBURG, WA  (January 7, 2016)- After 11 years of operating as tasting room, Iron Horse Brewery is announcing that food service will soon be available at [ the pub ].  The time is now, according to a bunch of customers who have been asking for in house food to be available. Chef Kevin “KC” Camarillo has joined the Iron Horse Brewery cousinhood to ensure the new food options parallel the high quality they expect from their brews. In his 25.5 years of foodservice experience KC has helped start over 15 restaurants and was the executive chef at two separate universities. His culinary expertise is the perfect match up to Iron Horse’s raw enthusiasm for great tasting food.

“If there is one thing to understand about our food, it is that we see a gap between diversity of options and focused beer and food pairing. Our goal is to close that gap”, said Greg Parker owner and general manager of Iron Horse Brewery. “Food that is specifically made with our beer in mind ensures that we better get it right, like, all of the time”, commented Parker.

Why Now?
The decision to put food on the menu came after several years of deliberation, but  they chose 2016  because of demand, a desire to create distinct food & beer pairing options, and in part, because of the recent survey conducted by Arnett Muldrow, commissioned by the EDA and Chamber of Commerce which identified food service as driver for greater tourism numbers.  “Our focus has been and continues to be one that helps drive new and repeat customers to Ellensburg”, said Jared Vallejo, director of marketing. “We want to do our part in making Ellensburg a real tourist destination, where all businesses and community members benefit from a prosperous core”, added Vallejo.  “Also, we know that quaffing and masticating go hand in hand, so there’s that” commented Vallejo.

Details
The kitchen start date is tentatively set for the first week of March.  [the pub] will add to the culinary cultural richness of Ellensburg by integrating styles, ingredients, and concepts from all regions and mindspaces.

“We have waited to take this big step into food until we were sure that we were capable of doing it right. We are ready and excited to share it.” Retail manager Suzanne Vargas managed to say.
“Much like our beer, food at [ the pub ] will include risks and break rules in ingredients as well as pairings.” Retail Manager, Vargas added.  Operating Hours and age restrictions (21 and over) will remain unchanged. The menu will feature vague,  unique-to-Ellensburg options that they have yet to fully realize.

Deviant Dale's IPA Returns to Shelves in Limited Release in 2016

Courtesy of Oskar Blues Brewery
Seasonally Incarnated Brew Returns to Its Roots with Centennial Hops

Longmont, CO. and Brevard, N.C. - Oskar Blues Brewery is grabbing 2016 by the horns with the re-release of one of its core brews, Deviant Dale's IPA (8% ABV, 85 IBUs). Previously available year-round, this dry-hopped behemoth will now be available only seasonally and in limited release, so get it while you CAN.

The brew was the product of a happy accident in which the wrong bag of grain was used in a batch of flagship brew Dale's Pale Ale. From there, brewers dry hopped the IPA to perfection and made it more intense with each round of "testing" on a willing group of guinea pigs - regulars at Oskar Blues Grill & Brew in Lyons, CO.

The result is a devilish sidekick that boasts foreboding aromas - floral, derived from Centennial hops, and herbal from hedonistic Columbus dry-hopping. Deviant Dale's will storm onto shelves in a new 12 oz. can, just in time to warm the belly in spite of cooler temperatures.

"The decision to make Deviant Dale's available seasonally came as a result of the limited supply of punchy, floral Centennial hops that are the keystone of the recipe," says Oskar Blues Head Brewer Tim Matthews. "We are now able to be selective and incorporate only the hops that are insanely fresh and will provide optimal flavor."

Fanatics of the hellish brew can celebrate with Oskar Blues' brewing masterminds themselves at release parties taking place at the Tasty Weasel taprooms in ColoRADo and North Carolina on January 15

ColoRADo's event (4:30-close) will feature Deviant Firkins (think Jamaican and pineapple), unfiltered Deviant Chowdah and BBQ from Oskar Blues Homemade Liquids and Solids, and a station for your little devils to create their own Voodoo dolls.

At the North Carolina brewery's event from 5-close, the masters will be brewing four specialty batches in a Deviant flight, including Bloody Mary, Pineapple Habanero, Blood Orange, and Honey Cardamom. Attendees will also enjoy tasty specialties from the Oskar Blues CHUBwagon, live music from Tina & Her Pony, colossal Nintendo and Deviant merchandise galore. A trolley is available to take attendees from Asheville to the brewery.

Since its inception, Deviant Dale's has won a slew of awards, including a silver medal at the Great American Beer Festival in the American-style IPA category in 2011 and a score of 99 from Rate Beer. Check the Oskar Blues Brewery Beer Finder to locate Deviant Dale's IPA near you.

Firestone Walker’s Velvet Merlin Oatmeal Stout Has Been Transformed Into Nitro Merlin Milk Stout Available Starting January 6.

Courtesy of Firestone Walker Brewing Co
Paso Robles, CA: With a new ingredient and a bit of wizardry, Firestone Walker’s Velvet Merlin oatmeal stout has been transformed into a mindblowing mouthful known as Nitro Merlin Milk Stout, to be released starting on January 6, 2016

“We’ve experimented with Velvet Merlin as both a milk stout and as a nitro beer, but this is the first time we’ve married the two styles,” said Brewmaster Matt Brynildson. “The combination is really magical, to the point where you can’t imagine one without the other once you taste it.”

Nitro Merlin Milk Stout marks Firestone Walker’s first broad-market foray into nitro beers. It will be available in draft year-round across Firestone Walker markets nationwide—starting with a series of “Milk & Cookies” promotions in collaboration with Brown Butter Cookie Company, a beloved family operation located in Firestone Walker’s backyard of California’s Central Coast.

 Milking It

Nitro Merlin Milk Stout is brewed exactly the same as Firestone Walker’s winter seasonal Velvet Merlin oatmeal stout, but with one critical twist: the inclusion of non-fermentable lactose sugar (a.k.a. milk sugar), the ingredient that transforms the beer into a milk stout.

“With a traditional dry stout like Velvet Merlin, you’re using these roasted barleys that add astringency, with a fairly high hopping rate that adds bitterness,” Brynildson said. “But when you add milk sugar into the mix, you counterbalance those more astringent qualities. It’s a lot like adding cream to your dark roasted coffee.”

He added, “The result is a stout that is still roasty, but with this mellow sweetness and a roundness of body that is only enhanced by the nitro format.”

More Velvety

Nitro beer was originally popularized as a way to mimic the classic British cask ale experience, which is known for delivering a thick creamy head and an ultra-smooth mouthfeel with less carbonation.
“The challenge with cask ale is that you’re dealing with a live fermentation, and a lot of things can go wrong,” Brynildson said. “Nitrogenating a stable beer is the solution for capturing a similar head and mouthfeel while bulletproofing the process.”

When a nitro beer is poured, it is pushed through a dedicated “sparkler” nozzle on the tap that sheers the liquid and knocks the nitrogen out of solution.

“You get this cascading waterfall effect in the glass and this temporary visual whiteout of the beer,” Brynildson said. “That’s the nitrogen coming out of solution, and then it migrates to the top to create this beautiful foam. The presentation is just fantastic. Nitro isn’t just about head retention and palate smoothness, it’s also about the theater of the pour.”

He added, “With Nitro Merlin Milk Stout, you’ve got this dark, roasty beer that looks really ominous, yet on nitro it’s so smooth and creamy and drinkable. It’s a visual mindf***, and a complete transformation on the palate—especially with the added dimension of the milk sugar.”

Courtesy of Firestone Walker Brewing Co
 Milk & Cookies

The release of Nitro Merlin Milk Stout coincides with a series of “Milk & Cookies” promotions to be held in select markets, with the beer being served with cookies provided by Brown Butter Cookie Company. The company’s signature shortbread cookies are made with browned butter, brown sugar and vanilla with a touch of sea salt.

“Brown Butter Cookie Company is a hometown favorite created by two sisters here on the Central Coast,” Brynildson said. “This is a pairing of local flavors that taste really awesome together.”

Details on upcoming Milk & Cookies pairings will be forthcoming at FirestoneBeer.com.

Full Sail Releases Session Wheat, Premium American-Style Hefeweizen

Crisp flavors of malted wheat are balanced by a delicately spicy hop finish

Hood River, Oregon – January 6, 2016 – Today’s forecast: Cloudy with a chance of grain. The brewers at Full Sail Brewing Company are ready to share their newest beer in the Session lineup - Session Wheat premium American-style Hefeweizen. Session Wheat is medium bodied and refreshing, featuring aromas of malted wheat with a citrusy hop finish.

"With Session Wheat, we have put our state-of-the-art mash filter to the test,” says Executive Brewmaster James Emmerson. “It allows us to use a substantial portion of unmalted wheat in the grist, which imparts a wonderful wheat character in the finished beer," Emmerson adds.

As with all great Hefeweizens drawing upon their German roots, just enough residual yeast remains to give it a hazy golden pour. "Grown in the northwest, brewed in the northwest, Session Wheat is naturally hazy with a delicate crispness and a clean finish,” says Full Sail Brewmaster Jim Kelter. “It’s a refreshing, easy-drinking addition to our Session lineup."

Session Wheat Premium Hefeweizen will be available year round in Session’s signature 11 oz. stubby bottles in 12-packs, 6-packs and on draft. 5.4% ABV, 24 IBUs. When it grains, it pours!

GoodLife Brewing Announces “Sustainable Session Series” Launching February 2016

Courtesy of GoodLife Brewing
BEND, OR (Wednesday, January 6, 2016) Brewing balanced, consistent beer and giving back to local charities committed to protecting Mother Nature are two of GoodLife Brewing’s core values. We are excited to announce the crossover of the two with our “Sustainable Session Series.”  Starting February 3rd, 2016, GoodLife Brewing is launching the Sustainable Session Series that will feature three different session ales associated with three different organizations giving back 1% of total sales to each organization.  The first beer in the Series is called Brewshed® Session Ale, and is benefiting the Brewshed® Alliance.

The Pacific Northwest is home to some of Earth’s finest water, and to salute the source, we’re donating a portion of this ale’s sales to the Oregon Brewshed® Alliance and Washington Brewshed® Alliance; two crews committed to defending and protecting the wilds and its mighty watersheds. Lyndsay Gordon, Brewshed® Alliance Program Manager, said, “The Brewshed® Alliance provides an opportunity to highlight an additional benefit of conservation that is tied to something many people really enjoy, beer.”  Washington Wild and Oregon Wild joined forces in 2014 and launched the Brewshed® Alliance with the goal being simple: protected water makes superior beer.

Courtsey of GoodLife Brewing

GoodLife Brewing’s Marketing Director, Chris Nelson, said, “All the breweries in Bend are fortunate enough to be able to use our tap water for the water we use in the brewing process.  That’s not the case in most cities, so GoodLife recognizes the importance of being stewards and protecting our water.”  Gordon also added, “The beauty of the Brewshed® Session Ale is that it highlights more than just the connection between protected water and superior downstream beer, but also the connection between the organizations.  It's a beer with an impact and all people have to do is enjoy it to support a great brewery and conservation in both Oregon and Washington State.” Next time you head out into the wilds, head to your local store and pick up some cans to share with your friends.

New Belgium Brewery’s Citradelic Tangerine IPA Brightens the New Year with a Wave of Citrus Hoppiness

Courtesy of New Belgium Brewing
Year-round release is one of four new offerings from New Belgium,
the brewery’s way of saying cheers to 2016

Ft. Collins, Colo., January 5, 2016 – A new year brings a new year-round release, from New Belgium Brewing. Citradelic Tangerine IPA offers a mystical marriage of Citra hops and tangerine, with every sip elevating you onto a new plane of pure tropical, fruity pleasure. Tangerine-touched Mandarina Bavaria, tropical Azacca, and fruity Galaxy hops complement Citra, balanced with a touch of malty sweetness.

“This hop profile really lends itself to that big citrusy, juicy fruit nose, so the next logical step was to riff off of that with actual Tangerine,” said Assistant Brewmaster Grady Hull. “The result is a brightly citrus, slightly bitter, and pleasantly balanced IPA.”

Citradelic Tangerine IPA comes in at 6 percent ABV and 50 IBUs. It retails for a suggested price between $8.99 and $10.99 a six-pack.

Seasonal Release: Side Trip Belgian Style Pale Ale
In addition to the new year-round release of Citradelic, New Belgium’s Side Trip Belgian Style Pale Ale also hits shelves this January. Every great journey needs a side trip; and thus the story of Side Trip comes alive. When New Belgium’s brewmaster, Peter Bouckaert, stumbled upon the Belgian brewery Brouwerij Van Den Bossche, and its Buffalo yeast strain, he knew he wanted to bring back the taste to the U.S. With a little help from Belgian friends, and few strains of yeast from the brewery, Side Trip came to fruition.

The pale ale includes Belgian Chateau Abbey and Cara Ruby malts with Belgian Magnum, Saphir and Target hops, providing a bready, caramel-sweet wash with traces of stone fruit and a dry finish. It has 22 IBUs and registers at 6 percent ABV. Side Trip Belgian Style Pale Ale retails for a suggested price between $8.99 and $10.99 a six-pack.

Glütiny
This month, also marks the official debut of two beers from New Belgium’s Glütiny series, a line of gluten-reduced beers. For both Glütiny Golden Ale and Glütiny Pale Ale, New Belgium brewers used an enzyme to break down the gluten proteins. Glütiny Golden Ale, at 5.2 percent ABV and 20 IBUs, is a sessionable, flavorful ale that starts sweet and ends crisp. Glütiny Pale Ale, at 6 percent ABV and 30 IBUs, has a light sweetness that slides into a balanced bitterness. Glütiny beers retail for a suggested price of $9.99 a six-pack.

Old Town Brewing To Release Second Annual Grimm Collaboration Beer to Benefit Doernbecher

Portland craft brewery will donate $2 of every pint sold to OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital’s Grimmster Endowment Fund

Portland, Ore. – (January 5, 2014) Old Town Brewing® (OTB®), a locally owned and operated Portland brewery, is once again collaborating with Portland-filmed TV series, Grimm® to create a limited batch beer. The Chocolate Chili Chupacabra, a Mexican hot chocolate inspired beer, will be sold at Old Town’s brewery location and downtown Old Town tap house, with $2 of every pint going directly to the Grimmster Endowment at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.

The Chocolate Chili Chupacabra is a mocha colored, 6.25 percent ABV beer, aged on a blend of Ghana and Ecuador cocoa nibs, and infused with a touch of cinnamon and chipotle chili. The bittersweet chocolate perfectly rounds out the beer’s malt character, while the chipotle chili and cinnamon add a warming kick on the finish – making it the perfect beer to warm up with by the fire as temps drop.

The beer will be officially tapped on Thursday, January 7, at 6p.m. at the brewery located at 5201 NE MLK Boulevard.

“We wanted to create a beer that would reflect the show’s qualities, and also draw inspiration from some of winter’s best-loved flavors, like hot chocolate and cinnamon. We’ve had so much fun being playful and experimental with our beers in the last year, and this is another way we’ve had the chance to do that,” said Adam Milne, owner of Old Town Brewing. “What’s even more incredible is that we have the opportunity to make a positive impact on an organization Old Town is passionate about through our beer, and we couldn’t be more excited to partner with the Grimmster Endowment again. So, come down and enjoy a great pint for a great cause.”

Old Town Brewing has cemented itself as a standout craft brewery amongst Portland’s infamous brew scene, proudly representing the city’s unique culture, and the people who create it. The brewery has received attention in 2015 for its gold medal IPA, and its candy cap mushroom ale, both inspired by the flavors of the Pacific Northwest. Old Town’s love for the region spans further than its flavors, committed to building a brewery that supports organizations that make a positive difference in the community.

The beer will be served at this year’s second annual Grimm Gala on February 13, 2016, when Grimm cast members will join together with Comcast and NBC Universal in support of OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital.
