Portland Brewing’s S.M.A.S.H. Pale Ale Returns

Portland, Ore.  — Portland Brewing is bringing back simplicity in its most refreshing form with the standout S.M.A.S.H. Pale Ale. The single malt and single hop (S.M.A.S.H.) brew delivers well-rounded flavor with its rich, bready malt base and lush pine and citrus hop notes. DRAFT magazine singled out S.M.A.S.H. as one of the top beers of 2015. Now this popular seasonal brew is making a special encore appearance to quench your thirst all summer long.

“It was clean and complex, a true testament to skillful brewing with a simple recipe,” stated DRAFT magazine in its Top 25 Beers of the Year issue, December 2015. “The result was really quite smashing.”

With an abundance of complex beer styles in the market, Portland Brewing’s S.M.A.S.H. exemplifies the basic elements of beer by showcasing a single malt and single hop varietal. “We decided that we wanted to give consumers a chance to try this version of the beer again, especially as it had received such great recognition last year,” says head brewer Ryan Pappe. He explains, “the Goldpils Vienna malts and Simcoe hops combination really knocked it out of the park, with the light toasted malt flavor hanging out in the background, offering just enough character to support the pine and citrus flavors of the Simcoe hops. The balance just worked out perfectly.”

S.M.A.S.H., like summer in the Pacific Northwest, won’t be around for long. You’ll find it in stores, bottle shops, and the Portland Brewing Company Taproom, between April 1st and August 15th. S.M.A.S.H. Pale Ale is available in six-packs and 22 oz. bottles, as well as on draft in select locations.
