PORTLAND, Ore. – March 4, 2016 –
BridgePort Brewing Company,
Oregon’s oldest craft brewery, announced today the release of STUMPTOWN
Tart Cherry Saison. Each year, STUMPTOWN Tart celebrates
and highlights different fruit. This year, a variety of Pacific
Northwest sour cherries are made the star by incorporating 2,000 pounds
of northwest sour cherries into the brew enhancing the real cherry
flavor.
“Our
annual Stumptown Tart is usually a Belgian Style Ale but we decided to
go a different direction for
this release,” states brewmaster Jeff Edgerton. “We’ve been wanting to
brew a Saison and are thrilled to introduce the style via our big brew
STUMPTOWN Tart Cherry Saison.”
STUMPTOWN Tart Cherry Saison Stats:
IBUs: 15
ABV: 7.0% OG: 15.85 Color: Reddish-pink
For
this beer, the brewers started with a malt base, which also contained
wheat, and then used German and Czech hops
to create a slightly hopped flavor to balance the sour cherries. The
beer is fermented with Belgian Saison yeast. Following primary
fermentation, they add the beautiful sour cherry puree and allow the
beer to undergo a secondary fermentation of the natural
cherry sugar. STUMPTOWN Cherry Saison brings together sweet and tart
flavors producing a refreshing and drinkable beer.
