Diamond Knot Craft Brewing Releases Beach House Blonde Ale

DIAMOND KNOT CRAFT BREWING RELEASES BEACH HOUSE BLONDE ALE WITH CELEBRATION
TO BENEFIT THE MUKILTEO FIRE DEPARTMENT BENEVOLENT FUND

Mukilteo, WA  – When firefighters from the Mukilteo Fire Department approached Diamond Knot Craft Brewing about helping to raise funds for a potential benevolent fund, it was easy to say “absolutely!”

The plan, brewed up by the crew at Station 24, was to combine brewing and firefighting forces to start the Mukilteo Firefighters Benevolent Fund with seed money raised through a special bottle release and party. On July 25, the first bottles of Beach House Blonde Ale will be released to the public during the launch party from 4-9pm at Diamond Knot’s Production Brewery & Taproom in Mukilteo.

Diamond Knot will donate $1 for each bottle of Beach House Blonde sold.

Fireman Jordan Scott was the idea man, according to Local 3482 President Jeff Shields.

“Jordan brought the idea to the union,” he said. “The International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) and Mukilteo Firefighters Local 3482 have a long history of helping out others. Every year, the firefighters of Mukilteo hit the streets for the MDA as part of the Fill the Boot campaign, and we also host the well-known pancake breakfast and the super-popular Egg Hunt every year before Easter Sunday. When Jordan brought the idea of starting our own Benevolent Fund with the goal of helping others locally, everyone embraced the idea pretty quickly.”

Sherry Jennings, Diamond Knot’s Director of Sales and Marketing, agreed that the idea of combining forces with the Mukilteo Fire Department was quickly embraced by her team, as well.

“We have been donating to the Pancake Breakfast for years, and we recognize all that the fire department does for the community in addition to responding to fire and medical calls, pulling cats off roofs and simply keeping a watchful eye.

“Jordan’s enthusiasm for the partnership was contagious. Before I could even finish pitching the idea to our brewery team, all heads were nodding a resounding ‘yes.’”

Jennings added that bottling “Beach House Blonde” was quickly put on the calendar, and with it the idea for a release party followed. Station 24, on 5th Street, is known as the Beach House. Although it would have been fun to celebrate just down the hill at the Brewery & Alehouse, the decision was made to host the party at the larger DK headquarters.

The event will include the Snohomish County Firefighters Pipe & Drums, as well as The Industrials, who will kick off their set around 7. There will be an outdoor tented beer garden, a food truck and lots of boots to hold donations to seed the benevolent fund.

“Most people know we help out when someone calls 911,” Shields said. "We're well-equipped and trained to handle emergencies. Unfortunately, we encounter a lot of situations that we don't have the resources for – the unforeseen things that happen before, after, and between calls. Sometimes all a person really needs when they call for an ambulance is help getting a prescription filled, or a ride to the clinic. Often we encounter families that have no way of following a loved one to the hospital when they are transported by ambulance. Our hope is the Benevolent Fund will help us provide that prescription, or a taxi ride for the family. We don't have any criteria or specific needs identified. If a member of our team sees someone who needs help we can provide, we'll have a system ready to provide that help.

“In the past, our members have given their own time and money to help local families during the holidays; providing gifts and clothes in an effort to make someone's holiday a little bit better. This has always been kind of a grassroots thing we've done. We don't advertise it, and, again, there's no criteria. We just find out someone's needs and we try to provide help. We feel that having the Benevolent Fund might help spread that help even further."

The excitement is building for the launch party.

“We're very excited!” Shields said. “We think Jordan's brought a great idea forward, and we're really excited to be partnering with Diamond Knot. This is an exciting partnership, and we see it as two great organizations working collaboratively to provide help locally.”

“It’s a win-win for the community,” Jennings said. “We conduct our business always asking ourselves, ‘Are we doing the right thing?’ Helping to raise money for the benevolent fund is definitely doing the right thing.”

Alaskan Brewing Releases Imperial IPA The Latest Beer In Its Pilot Beer Series

Imperial IPA is Latest Alaskan Brewing Pilot Series

Big and bold, with tons of flavor and a concentration on Simcoe and Mosaic hops

JUNEAU, Alaska (July 1, 2015) – Alaskan Brewing is releasing its latest Pilot Series beer today, simply called Imperial IPA, that is dedicated to exploring and accentuating the unique and exciting hops of Yakima Valley growers.  One hop grower and developer in particular is a common thread among two of the hops used in this new beer.

“Our Imperial IPA is a celebration of hops, and especially two hop varieties – Simcoe and Mosiac. Both hops have the same developer in common, a remarkable Washington State hops grower named Jason Perrault,” said Alaskan Quality Assurance Manager David Wilson, who is chiefly responsible for the hops buying at Alaskan Brewing.

Perrault is a fourth-generation hops grower in Yakima Valley, and is part of a vibrant hops-development region that has in large part been a catalyst to the growth of the West-Coast IPA style.

“He worked with other hops developers, including Chuck Zimmerman and Gene Probasco, to accentuate the high aromatics and complex flavors that we are trying to showcase in this Imperial IPA,” said Wilson. “He also helped develop the Citra variety of hop that we use in many of our beers. But in this beer we are concentrating on the intense pine and tropical fruit taste and aromas of the Simcoe and Mosaic hops.”

Imperial IPA is made with Juneau’s glacier-fed water and an array of hops used in the boil and dry hopping, including Simcoe, Mosaic, Topaz, Bravo, Summit, Nugget and Apollo hops. Pale, Munich, and Light Crystal malts provide the backbone.

The label depicts a group of Stellar’s Sea Lions hauled out on a buoy in Southeast Alaska waters. Named after Georg Wilhelm Steller, the pioneering German botanist who sailed Alaskan waters with Vitus Bering in 1741, these massive creatures are classified as “near-threatened,” but have maintained a stronghold here in Alaska. Noisy and pretty darn stinky, the buoys where they rest are a spectacle for any passing boats, and at over 1,200 pounds these sea lions can be an intimidating presence in the water for nervous kayakers.

Alaskan’s Pilot Series beers come out 3 to 4 times a year on draft and in 22-ounce bombers, and are typically available for about 3 months. They are usually bigger beers, and this Imperial IPA comes in at 8.5% ABV and 80 IBUs. Imperial IPA will be available in all 17 states that distribute Alaskan Beer.

Inaugural Bottling of Firestone Walker Brewing 's Rare Helldorado Barley Wine Set for July 18th.

IN RIDES “HELLDORADO”

Inaugural Bottling of Barrel-Aged Blonde Barley Wine
Set for July 18

Paso Robles, CA: You’ve been warned: Helldorado may be blonde in color, but if you take it lightly, you’ll get gunned downed by a blast of barrel-aged flavor at an ABV of 12 percent.

Indeed, after years as an occasional draft rarity, Firestone Walker Brewing Company’s iconoclastic Helldorado—a blonde barley wine aged in retired spirits barrels—is set to make its bottled debut on July 18.

“The idea behind Helldorado was to create a super blonde barley wine that could still carry the strong barrel character imparted by these intense spirits barrels,” said Brewmaster Matt Brynildson, “You’ll want to expect the unexpected with this beer.”

Naked & Unafraid

Helldorado was originally brewed to fill a stylistic gap in Firestone Walker’s barrel-aged Anniversary Ale blending program, which is composed of eclectic component ales.

“A few years into the program, we noted that all of our barrel-aged components were really dark and thick,” Brynildson said. “We needed some differentiation in color and style. It got us thinking about how cool it would be to brew this really pale blonde ale, and then age it in spirits barrels to create this naked beer with tons of pure barrel expression.”

He added, “Helldorado is made with just one malt, El Dorado hops and the barrels. I’ve resisted the temptation to blend a little something else into it. It’s just this really interesting expression of barrels beyond anything else we’ve done, and I decided that there was no need to mess with it.”

Tombstone Days

The name Helldorado comes from a fortuitous road trip that Brynildson took with his grandfather to Tombstone, Arizona—home of the infamous gunfight at the OK Corral.

“We were walking around this old-timey desert town and grandpa suggested that we go have a beer,” Brynildson said. “We went to the local saloon and there was this poster on the wall advertising a local event called Helldorado Days, depicting this evil bull scaring the crap out of some cartoon guy—Hellll-dorado!

At the time of the Tombstone excursion, Brynildson had just begun brewing this blonde barley wine with El Dorado hops. He also knew that the German word for “pale” is hell. “It was just too perfect, so I knew right then, sitting in that saloon, that I’d found the name for the beer,” he said.

The 2015 Helldorado is limited to 3,500 cases of 22-ounce bottles as part of Firestone Walker’s Proprietor’s Vintage Series. It will be available in select markets across the United States. The suggested retail is $16.99.

Stone Brewing Releases RuinTen Triple IPA

f Hops
Courtesy of Stone Brewing Co
ESCONDIDO, CA (June 29, 2015) – It’s the time of year again when the mercury in thermometers rises in tandem with the hop faithful’s thirst for piney, botanical bitterness. The close of June marks the start of Stone RuinTen Triple IPA season for Stone Brewing Co. An amped-up IPA building off its famous progenitor, Stone Ruination IPA, this once-a-year offering explodes with citrus and stone fruit aromas that give way to an onslaught of pungent, resinous, tropical fruit flavors. This immensely hopped IPA is available now in 22-ounce bottles and on draft at restaurants, bars and retail shelves where Stone beer is sold, nationwide.

Courtesy of Stone Brewing Co
Originally released to commemorate the tenth anniversary of Stone Ruination IPA, this splendorous, hop-heavy gem debuted in June 2012 as Stone Ruination Tenth Anniversary IPA and instantly became a hit among hoppy-beer lovers. Rather than limit the beer to one-hit wonder status, the recipe was revisited and added to Stone’s lineup of annual special releases. In 2013, it came back with the name Stone RuinTen IPA, the nickname given to it by the Stone Brewing Team. This year, it’s returning as 2015 Stone RuinTen Triple IPA and, though the word “triple” has been added to the name, that’s the only difference. The recipe remains the same: full-bodied, flavorful and hoppy as all get out…just the way we (and our fans) like it!

“Stone RuinTen Triple IPA has become one of our brewing team’s favorite IPAs, so we’re always thrilled to brew it come June,” says Stone Brewmaster Mitch Steele. “Dry-hopping with five pounds of Citra and Centennial hops per barrel results in a magical blend of fruity, floral notes.”

Adds Stone CEO and Co-founder Greg Koch, “If Stone Ruination Double IPA 2.0 is a ‘Liquid Poem to the Glory of the Hop,’ then Stone RuinTen Triple IPA is ‘A Stage Dive into a Mosh Pit of Hops!’”

Built to sate the appetites of the highest order of hop fanatics, Stone RuinTen Triple IPA’s elevated malt presence provides a strong, full-bodied mouthfeel to help balance its intense, lingering hop bitterness while lending a slightly caramelized accent to hop-borne tropical fruit flavors. These delicious nuances are at their prime when the beer is consumed fresh, making Stone RuinTen Triple IPA an annual offering to be hunted down and enjoyed as soon as humanly possible.

As if the beer itself weren't enough (it is), for the first time ever, the arrival of Stone RuinTen Triple IPA brings with it a celebration of both the beer and its recently updated, year-round counterpart, Stone Ruination Double IPA 2.0. This comes via Stone Ruination Nation. Hop-hungry craft beer enthusiasts will be able to soak in the lupulin love at stores, bars and restaurants across the country via a bevy of special events—some of which will include oaked and double-dry-hopped iterations of Stone Ruination Double IPA 2.0—and share what are sure to be bold experiences on social media using the hashtag #RuinationNationFans are invited to visit RuinationNation.com for more information on this celebration of the almighty hop and a pair of IPAs that pay fitting homage to beer’s boldest element.

You’re welcome…again.

Sierra Nevada And Brauhaus Riegele Partner On A Brand New Oktoberfest Beer

SIERRA NEVADA PARTNERS WITH 600-YEAR-OLD BRAUHAUS RIEGELE
ON BRAND NEW OKTOBERFEST BEER
Oktoberfest fall seasonal will feature a different German partner each year
Chico, CA— June 29, 2015—On a trip to Germany this spring, Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. finalized its inaugural partner, Augsburg’s Brauhaus Riegele, for a brand new Oktoberfest beer. Released each fall starting in 2015, the collaborative seasonal will feature a different German brewery every year. The partnership blends centuries of brewing tradition with modern spirit, giving craft drinkers the ultimate Oktoberfest, a Bavarian festival beer unlike any they’ve experienced in the US.

Courtesy of Sierra Nevada Brewing Co
Family owned like Sierra Nevada, Brauhaus Riegele has brewed excellent craft beers since 1386, and more than 600 years later, its innovation earns accolades including 2015 Craft Brewer of the Year at the Meininger International Craft Beer Awards. Just as Sierra Nevada’s Ken and Brian Grossman lead as a father-son team, Brauhaus Riegele has a father-son duo at the helm. Its 27th generation Master Brewer Dr. Sebastian Priller-Riegele works alongside his son Sebastian Priller-Riegele, a World Champion Beer Sommelier, to brew a lineup of beers that together have earned more than 200 awards and medals stateside and abroad. Their brewmaster, Frank Muller, has won the German Government’s “Bundesehrenpreis” award for quality seven times—every year it’s been given.

“We’re honored that Brauhaus Riegele, a real cornerstone of German craft brewing, is kicking off this Oktoberfest collaboration with us,” said Ken Grossman, Sierra Nevada’s founder. “We’re both family owned, our children are hands on, and we share a passion for great beer. We’re aligned in so many ways, and we’re excited about the outstanding beer that’s emerged.”

Courtesy of Sierra Nevada Brewing Co
“For years we’ve followed the great development of Sierra Nevada and we are really impressed by Ken and Brian’s fantastic beer culture,” said Sebastian Priller-Riegele, Brauhaus Riegele’s marketing manager. “We are really looking forward to sharing this outstanding beer together that shows our passion and dedication to the art of brewing. It’s an honor to work with Sierra Nevada.”

The Sierra Nevada and Brauhaus Riegele collaboration Oktoberfest will hit retail shelves in August. It will only be distributed in North America, although Brauhaus Riegele fans in Germany need not worry. The two breweries are collaborating on a separate barrel-aged beer to be brewed and aged on site at Brauhaus Riegele’s traditional Bavarian sudhaus.

Sunsplash Kölsch is inspired by a Jamaican beverage made in tribute of a reggae fest held in Jamaica that originated in the 70's. Sunsplash begins as a German style Kölsch Ale brewed with premium pilsner malt and a touch of wheat and Munich malts.  We then add Tettnanger hops, and ferment with a German ale yeast at 59 degrees to create a crisp, dry, and thirst quenching beer.  With the aromatic additions of Caribbean Sorrel (a relative of Hibiscus), Thai Ginger, & Fresh Orange Zest. 5.4% ABV 18 I.B.U.’s

Burnside Sunsplash, in addition to all Burnside Ales is unfiltered.  This requires an increased time commitment, but pays dividends in the depth, character, and flavor profile of our offerings.

3rd Annual LagerFest Return July 11th

Courtesy of  the Lager Fest
Portland, OR 6/29/2015 - The 3rd annual LagerFest, a benefit for XRay.fm takes over the White Owl Social Club's spacious bar and back patio on Saturday July 11th with the largest selection of lagers in the state, perhaps the country!

The White Owl is excited to host the third annual giant patio party that celebrates the almighty but often overlooked LAGER! 50+  international and craft brews will be out on the legendary White Owl patio, and the beers will be flowing harder than Aesop Rock while riding the back of Damian Lillard dunking over Dwight Howard from the top Multinomah Falls during a Red Fang versus Lord Dying heavy metal deathmatch battle royale extravaganza!

Ok maybe not that hard, but we mean business! We spent a lot of careful time cherry picking lagers from all over the industry, and we took great pains to fill the line up with a variety of colors and flavors that span the entire Lager horizon! That ended up being a lot of beer, and it’s not going to drink itself, so check out the lineup, get in the shade with us, put up your feet and enjoy these tasty Lager brews!!
