The New School (newschoolbeer.com) presents -
On Friday April 3rd the Class of 2014 new Portland Breweries Night gathers at the White Owl Social Club to celebrate a successful graduating class with a unique collaboration beer spun off into five different versions. Ex Novo Brewing, Baerlic Brewing, Fat Head’s Brewing, Stormbreaker Brewing and Royale Brewing Co. all got together and decided to brew a basic Belgian/Saison style golden ale with the same yeast Wyeast 3726, Farmhouse Ale but each brewer would brew their own unique version with a special ingredient of their choice.

The inaugural batch was brewed at Ex Novo Brewing where Joel Gregory helped spearhead the collaboration. Nearly all the brewers were able to gather for that first beer and the yeast was then cropped from that initial brew and handed down to each brewer for their beers. On Friday April 3rd from 6-10pm the White Owl Social Club will host all five breweries and all five beers pouring side-by-side on the patio with each brewer also pouring an additional beer from their respective brewery. It’s a great chance to meet the entire new class of Portland breweries at once while trying their stuff out and the unique variations of their collaboration like versions with Meyer Lemon, Jackfruit, Galangal, Tamarind, Coffee and Peppercorns.

Beer List (first beer listed from every brewery is collaboration)

Royale Brewing
the Motivator, a coffee saison brewed with Tettnanger and Meridion hops with Ethiopian Golba cold press coffee from Extracto Coffee Roasters. 5.4% abv, 20 IBUs

Royale Brewing
Tacenda Pilsner, 5.5% abv / 50% Weyermann pilsner malt, tett hops.

Baerlic Brewing
Wildcat Saison with Meyer Lemon: Fruity, tart and slightly funky, Wildcat is our take on a traditional Belgian saison. We added Meyer lemon peel and beechwood smoked malt to give this beer a rich and complex mouthfeel and finish.

Baerlic Brewing
Primeval NW Brown Ale: A NW take on an American Brown Ale. Aromas of evergreen, cocoa & sweet orange dance with biscuit, roast and malty sweetness that finishes dry with bittersweet chocolate and citrus.

Ex Novo Brewing
Jacked Up! Farmhouse: A tart farmhouse ale with 8 gallons of Jackfruit puree. Funky tropical fruit flavors. 7.5% ABV, 9 IBU.

Ex Novo Brewing
The Most Interesting Mexican Lager: Crisp and refreshing, this light lager was brewed with Vienna and Pilsner malts with a hint of flaked corn.  Fermented with Mexican lager yeast, Saaz hops add a delightfully balanced bitterness. 5.5% ABV,  17 IBU.

Stormbreaker
Stormbreaker & Friends
Brewed in collaboration with the class of 2014 (Ex Novo, Baerlic, Fat Heads, & Royale), this saison has aromas of citrus & big spicy ginger from the galangal. Slight sweet & sour flavors from the tamarind give way to a clean, smooth, dry finish. ABV 6.4% IBU 18

Stormbreaker
Triple Double IPA: Achieving a triple double in hoops is impressive, but achieving it in your beer is even better. With ten hop additions of three hop varietals, Mosaic, Citra, and Amarillo, this beer scores on your palate, rebounds in your nose with big aromas of grapefruit citrus and pineapple, and is assisted by the punchy, juicy citrus flavors to balance the slight upfront bitterness and big 8.5% ABV to make this a Rip City slam dunk. ABV 8.5% IBU 90

Fat Head’s
Bier De Mars: Wallonian style farmhouse ale. Brewed with 4 types of peppercorns and a bit of smoked malt, this belgian farmhouse is spicy, earthy and has a light tartness with just a hint of smoke. 7.3% abv 17 ibu

Fat Head’s
Semper FiPA
Our to all who have served in the armed forces, past and present. This IPA is piney and dank with aromas of pineapple and mango from copious amounts of Chinook and Equinox hops!
7.3% abv 80 ibu
